Statement on Gun Violence in America

I haven’t really been silent about these tragedies, and the overall epidemic that is gun violence in America. But this morning I have to give and interview, and then interview someone myself for the podcast, and I don’t see how I can go on the air without addressing these events. I have a duty, and a platform, and I am going to use it.

I Wasn't Ready To Talk About It, I Guess I Am Now.

When you ask me how the podcast is doing, I can proudly explain we’re one of the top podcasts in education, and we travel all over now speaking to educators and sharing their stories, and I may even let slip a few of the awesome projects we are working on. If you only slightly knew me, or were meeting me for the first time and asked me about the podcast you may think I am bragging. Please believe, I am not bragging, I am confused and absolutely redirecting the confusion. I’m super good for small bursts of confidence and bravado. I get right back to confusion, at least on the inside, super quick.

Do It Like Doofenshmirtz

In an effort to rule the world, or at the very least, the tri-state area, Doctor Doofenshmirtz creates incredible devices called Inators. Every Inator that Doofenshmirtz made, failed. I think there is a lesson from this! You see, the Inators may have failed him but that didn’t stop him from getting up, dreaming big, and doing it all again. Go build your “Inators” - the big ideas you have for the crazy things you want to do. And if they don’t work out - I want you to fail awesomely.

There Go My Heroes Part 4: Carl Hooker

This is a series of posts about my educational hero’s. This small group of people have had a HUGE impact on my life. The criteria to make it to this list is simple: Would I be doing what I am doing now, without them? If the answer is no, they’re on this list. I can also clearly explain WHY I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing now without them, which is important when you’re writing a blog post, they say… I also have EVIDENCE for most of them, which is amazing. I can show you clear examples of them going WAY BEYOND what is expected to help me. That, in my mind is what a hero is. So here we go.

Programming in Scratch: Reconsider Remixing

Scratch is my “first love” in the coding and STEM space. It became a HUGE component of my teaching and I’m not sure I would be doing a lot of what I am doing now with it frankly. I love how easy it is to use, and how fun it is. I love the games on it and the rabbit hole you can go down exploring it now. In Scratch there is a feature that allows you to save a copy of someone else’s program and modify it. They call it remixing and I love it.
